Measurement Lab
Purpose
This lab's purose is to get us comfortable with the lab area and the digital lab reports
Equipment
A meter stick, a Vernier Caliper, a block of wood (any size), a graduated cylinder, a few sheets of paper, and a metric ruler.
Procedure
Use the Vernier Caliper and metric ruler to calculate the length, width, and height of the block of wood, then calculate the volume.
Use the vernier Caliper to measure the height and diameter of the graduated cylinder, then calculate the volume.
Measure the thickness of several pieces of paper then divide that number by the number of pieces to get the thickness of one sheet.
Lastly use the meterstick to measure the dimensions of the room, then calculate the volume.

Data
Block of Wood Graduated Cylinder Sheet of Paper The Room
Thickness (width) (diameter) (of 5 sheets)
2.08 cm 1.2 cm .2 mm 7.87 meters
Length
5.06 cm 12.80 meters
Height
5.1 cm 10.8 cm 2.90 meters
Thickness (width) (diameter) (of 5 sheets)
2.08 cm 1.2 cm .2 mm 7.87 meters
Length
5.06 cm 12.80 meters
Height
5.1 cm 10.8 cm 2.90 meters
Data Analysis and Calculations
Volume of the wood: 2.08cm X 5.06cm X 5.1cm = 53.68 cm^3
Volume of the cylinder: (1.2 cm/ 2) ^2 X 3.14 X 10.8cm = 12.21 cm^3
Thickness of paper: .2 mm/ 5 sheets of paper= .08 mm per sheet of paper
Volume of the room: 2.90 m X 12.80 m X 7.87 m = 292.13 m^3
Volume of the cylinder: (1.2 cm/ 2) ^2 X 3.14 X 10.8cm = 12.21 cm^3
Thickness of paper: .2 mm/ 5 sheets of paper= .08 mm per sheet of paper
Volume of the room: 2.90 m X 12.80 m X 7.87 m = 292.13 m^3
Conclusion
We successfully calculated the three volumes and the thickness, but because no definite answer was given to us we could not calculate the percent error. I still have trouble with the lab write-ups, but I feel confident that by the end of this semester I will not have any problems with it.
